CNC Multi-Tasking / Multifunction Okuma Multus B400 II

MULTUS B400II,

The MULTUS B400II is the ultimate fusion of turn-mill operations, with lathe, vertical or horizontal machining center and material handling operations consolidated into one 10-12 inch chuck class machine. This multi-tasking CNC machine performs process-intensive machining for shorter deliveries, while making more effective use of floor space. With fewer setups, work in process is drastically reduced and machine utilization is greatly increased.
The MULTUS B400II has a 225° B-axis range with 6,000 rpm H1-milling spindle with dual function (L/M). The H-1 dual function spindle head utilizes CAPTO-C6 tooling and has an 18/13 hp PREX milling motor spindle [opt: 10,000 rpm - 27/19 hp]. The base offering has 40-tool ATC, with an optional 60-tool ATC available. The H1-turret has a 0.001 degree B-axis and compound motion Y-axis for machining flexibility. The main spindle is equipped with a full contouring C-axis.
Thermo-Friendly Construction assures high accuracy, even in the most complex applications, and the optional W version with sub-spindle allows a part to be handed from one spindle to the other. The MULTUS B400II is equipped with Okuma’s THINC-OSP P300S control that is designed with ease of operation in mind. With single-mode operation and superior graphics, novice operators as well as professional machinists will experience a smoother, more effective way of producing parts.

INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGIES

he Okuma MULTUS B Series machines are general purpose multi-function CNC lathes that are designed to reduce set up time by virtually eliminating repetitive fixturing to improve accuracy and keep non-cutting time to a minimum. They features the industry’s first Collision Avoidance System software. Combined with Okuma’s OSP-P Control, this software can run the entire machining simulation and catch potential collisions before they create scrap. Thermo-Friendly Construction assures high accuracy, even in the most complex applications. Options include the W version with sub-spindle, designed to hand the part from one spindle to the other to complete milling and turning operations without changing the part.

Collision Avoidance System

Collision Avoidance System—An Overview
As machines become more complex, involving additional axes, automation and setup changing, there’s more room for human error. Many applications and development tools concentrate on the cutting and forget about the hazard of collision.
Our Collision Avoidance System (CAS) integrates 3D modeling of our machines, blanks and tooling with the power of the THINC-OSP Control to create a virtual machine. By running the real-time virtual application seconds ahead of the actual cutting, problems can be detected early and the machine stopped before a costly collision.
CAS generates the actual and exact shape of the materials milliseconds ahead of a cut to confirm that no interference takes place. Virtual Modeling requires exacting dimensions and definitions that only Okuma can deliver because we manufacture the machine and custom-create applications.
The CAS Difference
  • Creates a safeguard against operator or G-code error

  • Maximizes machine utilization rates via shorter setup, trial cut, and less machine down time

  • Enhances productivity with shorter trial cuts that allow machinists to concentrate on machining

  • Protects the operator in manual jogging mode

  • Allows the operator to run at full speed unless there’s a detected collision
